When I first this CD on, I really didn't know what to expect. But from the first song, "Alabama Key", a song about life with the use of a slim jim to steal cars really had me hooked on listening to more.
Loved "Crazy", the second cut. I was delighted to hear the blend and mix of all the vocals and instruments that impressed me more from one song to the next.
The third cut, "Wolf At Your Door" I thought was the most unique for the style and arrangement. The bass throughout all cuts is an anchor for its entirety with with outstanding licks and different tones on different cuts. Backed up by some full and fat keyboard work, with guitar leads and nice slide work along with lead and background vocals that are clear and well done.
The drums are seasoned and diverse, and all is mixed and recorded exceptionally well. I'm sure you won't want to shut this one down until the last cut is done.
Consisting of 12 outstanding songs, with eight members contributing to this production, all did an excellent job that makes this a journey of different styles of blues, somewhat soulful, funky and driving...all of the tunes were written and arranged by the Miller Brothers...
The more I listened, the more it became my favorite CD. In fact, I woke up this morning and had to listen to the sixth cut, "Things Will Get Better" as I was scrambling it in my head from the time I woke up...
Do yourself a favor and pick this one up and I guarantee it won't be just another dust collector. I'd love to see this group in KC real soon.
If you're used to moving your toe up and down while you listen to your favorite blues, Tales From Foundry Town will definitely have you dancin' - or at least your whole foot stompin' the floor, and maybe both hands patting the chair arms. Those who have ears, let them hear.
What an outstanding delight and pleasure to review this CD!!
